Welcome and Introductions

Andy Chirch, DRC President, presided over the meeting this evening; minutes from the December 8, 2009 meeting were accepted.

Cincinnati Police Department Update:

  • Asked for volunteers to help monitor the newly installed surveillance cameras. Contact the police department at 513-352-4566 for eligibility criteria; Citizens Police Academy winter session begins January 15th, persons interested can contact Ms. Monica Ervin @ 513-357-7554

Cincinnati Fire Department:
Reminder to dispose of Christmas trees as a fire prevention measure

Guests:
Jennifer Hauck – Mini Marathon & Heart Walk – March 28th is the 33rd year of the event; 15K run on Columbia Parkway along with four additional events; Ms. Hauck would like to encourage and expand participation – register on-line @ www.heartmini.org

OLD/REGULAR BUSINESS: COMMITTEE UPDATES

Treasurer's Report: Chris Smith
$4,410.58 balance in the DRC account.

Budget/NSP: George Verkamp
The City’s contribution to the DRC has been cut in 2010; DRC sees the need to be proactive and examine the programs they have contributed to in the past.

Communications Committee: Conrad Thiede
Broomball game on the square and mascots on parade on Saturday, Jan. 16th.

Membership Committee: Casey Gilmore and Alison Kamine
Several new members joined during the DRC Holiday Party as well as numerous renewals from current members.

Clean, Green and Safe Committee: David Siders, Paul Westendorf & Chris Wiedeman
The communal recycling bin on Third Street was removed due to under utilization; suggestions for an alternate location in the DRC are being requested – contact David @ dbsiders@gmail.com; Alcoa is providing large size totes to the city in a pilot program for recycling purposes.

Events Committee: Linda Phillips and Marty McGlinchey
Volunteer event at Christ Church was attended by 15 persons; Below Zero is hosting our next social on January 27th 6:00-8:00 and directly afterwards the DRC is encouraged to participate in "Movieoke"; February 24th we will gather at the newly renovated Mercantile Library.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The following announcements were noted:

  • On January 22nd Mary Barr Rhodes will be exhibiting a series of art pieces exploring the spirit and physicality of water in her unique living space/studio 5-10pm; 424 Findlay Street Studio 2B 513-751-4332.
  • Marvin Hawkins spoke on behalf of councilmember Laure Quinlivan ‚Äì he reminded us that her office is open to residents with any of their questions/concerns; Mr. Hawkins requested that we contact them with names of citizens who we‚Äôd like to see featured on their website 513-352-5303 LaureQuinlivan@cincinnati-oh.gov.
  • Friday, January 29th Snow Ball at Christ Church with proceeds going to charity.
  • Mayberry Restaurant 915 Vine Street has recently opened ‚Äì let‚Äôs welcome this new business and tell them you‚Äôre a downtown resident.
  • February 14th Blue Wisp Jazz Club ‚Äì international Jazz Artist Ken Mahogany is performing.
  • Paul Mitchell Concept Salon owned by Jim Brofft in the American Building has opened.
